My approach

Therapy is never a “one size fits all”, so I bring the best of multiple modalities to assist you on your healing journey (see below for why I love these modalities) as well as an array of psychoeducation, grounding techniques, and somatic experiencing practices that can serve as resources to help you move through your healing process with an understanding of what is happening and practical tools for how to cope.

I consider myself to have a relational style--meaning I believe compassionate connections are made through relating to common experiences. While you and your experience are the focus of therapy, I am not afraid to share my own experience if it could help. All the modalities I use in my practice are what I use in my own therapy and healing journey--I never like to suggest something for my Client's that I haven't tried or use myself.

I love what I do because I get to see Clients transform their relationship to the past. We can't change what has already happened, but we can change our relationship to it. When we no longer need to avoid the past or are held prisoner by old beliefs and unhelpful behaviors our current lives shift in significant ways. While a reduction of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts are possible, I find that connection to "who I really am", ability to "trust myself", and clarity of what is truly important are all additional and worthwhile benefits of effective therapy. Amazingly, I also often see radical healing of physical pain and chronic medical issues.

The answers are within you--we just need tune in and listen...

Internal Family Systems

IFS or "parts work" is one of my favorites because of it's compassionate and non-pathologizing stance on thoughts and behaviors. With IFS there are no "bad parts" just parts doing their best to help us, even if it doesn't feel like it. IFS is Client lead, meaning, we go at the Client's pace and the Cleint is ALWAYS the expert of thier own system. For more on this way of working see "modalities".

TRIP

TRIP or "Trauma Reprocessing and Integration Process" is a powerful and validating method to get access to various parts of us by working with one eye at a time. Strange at first, Clients report increased self compassion and appreciating what they learn about themselves. I also find TRIP helpful whenever a Client is feeling "stuck" or other modalities aren't working. For more on this way of working see "modalities".

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is incredibly effective and adaptable. Clients do not need to speak or re-live their story to get benefits. Brainspotting can be extremely effective for somatic experiences of pain and other body sensations. Specific phobias and symptoms due to "one time" traumas often resolved or greatly reduced within 3-6 sessions. Brainspotting pairs perfectly with IFS. For more information, see "modalities".

DBT and ACT

DBT or "Dialectic Behavioral Therapy" and "Acceptance and Commitment Therapy" or "ACT" are more cognitive ways of working. While I prefer mind/body modalities, DBT and ACT have a lot to offer in the way of psychoeducation, outlook, and activities that are helpful. For more information, see "modalities".
